The city of sin. A city that all of a sudden, out of nowhere, appears. Standing tall in the middle of the Nevada desert.
– I have to admit, even though I was here with my mother, her friend and her son a good 20 years ago, back when I was a little teeter totter. Vegas is not how I imagined. But then again, I don’t know how I imagined it to be either… –
I expected a much more condensed city, towering high overhead so you could not see the sky above. I didn’t think that distances between each building would be so deceiving either, – the strip is in fact 4 miles long! – It does not look like that at all. Things are further than they appear.
Before driving to Vegas we planned to meet up with a friend in San Diego. She is a fellow brit, who has family in the US, so it seemed stupid not to meet up.
We made plans to hit the Vegas strip together for 3 days ending the trip at Britney Spears’ “Piece Of Me” Concert. – Which was everything I imagined by the way! –
We drove from San Diego to Vegas, a truly unmissable experience! Literally driving for what seemed like hours with absolutely nothing for miles until hitting a stand-alone diner or a derelict town from the 50’s frozen in time, lost in the desert.
We stopped at an abandoned diner to marvel at what once was a busy roadside stop and admired it’s crumbling signs whilst doing the obvious thing and taking “movie scene” photographs.
After a couple more hours of driving and witnessing cities appear from nothing, there she was… The grand city built upon flat, arid terrain, towering high, and shining bright in the black of the desert night.
We booked a stirp view, and boy was it worth it! Upon arrival, a man at the check in desk leaned over to tell us that we “back-packed in style” haha. Back-packing or not, Vegas has to be done!
If my trip to Vegas was anything to go by, you can do one of two things while you are there:
Plan & Organise
Have a rough idea of what you wanna do and where you wanna go. This is especially important if you are only spending a limited number of days there.
It is so easy to just get caught up in what is Vegas. Gambling, drinking, more gambling and more drinking!
There is SO much to do, see and visit, 3 days merely is not enough to experience it fully.
I wanted to see the Stratosphere, go on the roller coaster at New York — New York Casino, go to a pool party and more.
But because we hardly planned, we seldom got to see half of it!
The other option is to wing it, which is also something I never regret because although we didn’t get to do everything we wanted, — like go to a Vegas strip club *coughcough* — we made lots of awesome memories and met some seriously interesting people along the way!
I would go into more detail but, you know the old saying:
“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!”
It definitely won’t be the last time I go there, I feel like Vegas has a lot more to offer and I want to see it all.
Next stop, San Francisco.
